What is a Health Coach?
Like a sports coach, a health coach is there to help inspire confidence in you, to motivate you to achieve goals and to share knowledge in obtaining those goals.
This could be something as simple as helping you get to sleep at night, manage medications or attend appointments to assist you in your health journey.
The old saying, give a person a fish, they will eat for a day, teach them to fish and they will eat for a lifetime, is the basis of what a Health Coach is trying to help you achieve. Its not about the heath coach saving you, its about them giving you the tools and motivation to help yourself. A doctor, or nurse, may rescue you in an acute care situation, but for ongoing health issues, you need help, some guidance, tips, explaining the situation, working with you to manage your condition.
Do you need help with any of these:
Emotional and physical wellbeing
Health lifestyle
movement and being active
Health eating
Sleep
Managing Stress
Reduction of harmful substances
Social connection
Living well with chronic health conditions
Action plans/goal setting
smoking cessation
Connecting with community services/social services
Family/Whanau support
If you would like to discuss further, please speak with your GP or nurse, otherwise you can make an appointment with reception or online in our portal.
This is a free service and appointments last up to 30 minutes.
